Alain Roberts Still Climbing Skyscrapers at Age 55

Alain Roberts Still Climbing Skyscrapers at Age 55 Source: Metro

Meet Alain Roberts, also known as the ‘French Spiderman’; he has made a career and a whole lot of money by climbing skyscrapers with his bare hands. Alain’s climbing career started when he was barely 12 years old when he could not locate the keys to his apartment on the eighth floor, and he decided to climb the exterior of the building to the patio rather than waiting for his parents. To date, he has scaled over 150 buildings across the world including the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world in a record time of 6 hours in Dubai, the Eiffel Tower, the New York Times building, the Sydney Opera House just to name a few.

Against The Law

Alain Roberts climbs the buildings often without permission and he has been arrested on various occasions. He sees climbing as a way of life and he does not care much what the authorities think. Amazingly, he is only armed with climbing shoes and chalk, and clings on to the window ledges until he reaches the top. He has vowed to continue scaling skyscrapers as long as he has the physical strength. Alain Roberts is 66% disabled after suffering two falls at age 19 and 20 where he broke several bones. He also suffers from vertigo, none of which can deter him from his seemingly dangerous hobby.

Despite his run-ins with security and police officers, various brands are attaching to Alain Roberts, which continue to earn him a sizeable income. Apart from the climb on the Burj Khalifa, which was allowed by the authorities and had scores of camera crews documenting the climb, he prefers to climb with less fanfare and he is arrested once he gets down. At 55, he is more focused than ever before and he is unrelenting in his quest to defy gravity by climbing buildings and landmarks with his bare hands.
